Empty Space

The road goes on
And the streets are as dead
As pockets of air in winter snow.
To be illumined
Is as the parting of clouds
Stricken by light as is all.
Between the two
There is empty space
Bound and wholly enthralled
By the highways
Between us and the light
That can make the very emptiness go.
