I gave you my heart
Out of every keyhole.
I gave up my doors
For your love.
Years I’ve wished
For a friend like you
In loneliness rending
Are all but gone.
My dreams have changed
And you’ve taken her place.
Chopping and swinging
With uneven grace,
Missing the mark
Once ending lost wait.
Her eyes turn from kindness
To regretful hate.
Horns and teeth
And hoof and hair
Are pieces of me everywhere.
The final blow is coming
And we’ve waited too long
In this cold world of grief
Where I’ll never belong.
A beautiful woman,
A mother, a friend,
Are no comfort to me
In these dreams of the dead.
