The sun rises
Casting shadows
Through the trees
Only to be blotted out
By endless vials
Of running ink.
It flows over my hands
Where what I held was lost
Ages long lost long ago
Like what I couldn’t cling to anymore.
Every sunrise
Blackened and stained.
Every new hope
A blackbird cawing
My middle name.
Surely just once
The sun could come up
For a single day.
Just long enough
To know my path
For I know the light
Can never stay.

Chained Melodies
What’s brought on by longing
Dissolves
When it seems that nothing belongs.
When you find you can’t stay strong.
Lost in a drawn out
Melancholy song.
